Team Uhuru led by
Patrick Ngatia Sunday donated foodstuffs, utensils and personal effects to
those affected by the on-going inter-community clashes in Tana River county.
The donations were presented to the Kenya Red Cross secretary General Abbas
Gullet at the Red Cross headquarters in Nairobi, Sunday.
“This
donation is not the solution to the problem, but a first step in looking for a
sustainable and lasting solution.” Says Mr. Ngatia of Team Uhuru. “A team will
go to access the situation on the ground as we look for a sustainable solution
like reconstructing for the affected families their houses and re-stocking to
enable them to go back to their normal lives.” Adds Mr. Ngatia.
Mr.
Ngatia urged the government to be pro-active not just flying to the area to
access the problem but come up with sustainable solution for the people.
“We
(Team Uhuru) urge Kenyans to live in peace, being an election period we don’t
want to see Kenya back where it was in 2007/08 after the 2007 general
elections.” Points out Mr. Ngatia.
According
to Abbas Gullet secretary General Kenya Red cross, in Tana River the people are
moving to Malindi and Magarini running away from the attacks. “In Tana River
there were 6000 people affected by Sunday but the number is likely to grow.”
Observes Gullet.
The
donations made by Team Uhuru will be transported to the people by the Kenya Red
Cross.
