East Africa’s insurance group Jubilee Holdings Limited has been awarded The
Best Quoted Company of the Year (runner up) and Best Pensions Fund awards at
the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) awards 2012.
Jubilee was recognized as the best Pensions
provider in Kenya, based on stable investment returns, customer service and security.
The Best Quoted Company of the Year recognized Jubilee’s consistent good
returns to shareholders, among other performance measures.
“These awards are a testimony of the
high value Jubilee continues to deliver to its investors, and the strategies
the company has put in place to ensure sustainability of these high returns in
the long term,” said Jubilee Holdings Chairman Nizar Juma.
Mr Juma said since listing in the
Stock Exchange in 1984, there has never been a year Jubilee has not paid
dividends. Its dividend payout has also consistently risen, and the company has
never called for a rights issue even as it continues to expand regionally.
Jubilee is presently in five countries; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and
Mauritius, with plans to grow to 15 African countries by the year 2020.
Jubilee also invests in high net
worth projects including Kenya’s first independent power producer Tsavo Power
Company in Kipevu; Bujagali Power Project in Uganda and SEACOM fiber options
submarine cable. Jubilee also has investments in banking, tourism, food
processing among other enterprises in Kenya and East Africa.
The CMA Awards recognize Nairobi
Stock Exchange listed companies. In picking winners for the Best Quoted Company
of the Year, judges were looking at a company’s good performance as a measure
of key financial parameters like earnings per share, return on equity, and
return on assets, profitability and dividend yield. Other judging criteria
included corporate governance among other achievements.
This was the third edition of the CMA
awards organized by Think Business, which also runs the Banking Awards, Insurance
Awards and SACCO Awards. Earlier this year Jubilee won 10 awards at the Annual
Insurance Awards.
