Step Father Arrested for Defilement

By Erastus Maleve

Police in Nyeri County have arrested a 55-year-old man who is suspected to have been
defiling his two step daughters.

The man who is locked at Nyeri Divisional Police Station was arrested at Kangemi quarry where he works after numerous complaints fromthe local community that the man has been sexually abusing the minors.
The daughters aged 14 and 10 years of age are pupils at a primary school in Tetu district.
The elder girl, 14, said that her step father started defiling when their mother started to be bed-ridden after falling sick of HIV/Aids.
“After the wife died, a month ago; he took the advantage and continued defiling his two daughters after he was left taking care of them.” Nyeri OCPD Kirunya Limbitu says.
The minors admitted that their father who has been a guardian has been taking advantage of them by defiling them since the mother was dead.

The children’s aunt Grace Gichohi said that it came into limelight after the father sent a phone text message to the children's grandmother saying that his two step-daughters should be taken to hospital and get tested immediately since he has been defiling them.
Although they have taken them several times for test, the results are contradicting since they at time state the children are positive while the other time they state they are negative.
Now police want to take the blood sample for the two children to the government chemist for more tests. However, the results have shown that indeed the children have been defiled.
The children are now staying with their grandmother at Kigwandi area in Tetu which is a better environment for them.
Kirunya said the suspect will soon be arraigned in court charged with defilement charges.
He said investigations have been launched to establish whether the children were infected with the HIV/Aids disease.
